Tornadoes! In Maine!
Yes, they get tornadoes in Maine. And so do we here in RI (remember last year’s crazy summer?)
Well, Maine had three tornadoes in one week!!! It’s a much bigger state obviously, but still…New England is not tornado country! There have been some memorable tornadoes in New England, however. The two biggest were probably the Worcester Tornado on June 9, 1953 and the Great Barrington Tornado on May 29, 1995. Both twisters were F4 tornadoes with winds of 206 to 260mph!!!!!!! In fact, here is a story about the Great Barrington storm from my friend Meteorologist Adam Strzempko at our sister station WWLP in Springfield, MA:
Going back to the Maine tornadoes, take a look at some of the damage from these photos. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

On June 9th, I’ll post a story about the Worcester Tornado of 1953. That story is truly amazing!!!!
