Fake Gablinske: ‘You’re unhappy? Wah! Wah! Wah!’
Along with its story about yesterday’s arrest of alleged Doug Gablinske e-impersonator John Leidecker, EastBayRI.com has posted 12 pages of e-mail messages [pdf] between actual Doug Gablinske, fake Doug “Gablinski,” and someone calling himself Walter Flatus. The paper says it obtained the e-mails from actual Doug Gablinske; I can’t vouch for that, but I take their word for it.
The messages are – well, I’ll let you judge for yourself.
Here’s one example. Flatus sends a message to the fake address, DougGablinski@gmail.com, saying he voted against the representative in the Sept. 14 primary because he incorrectly thought Gablinske supported tolls on the Mount Hope Bridge. Here is the verbatim response from “Gablinski,” dated Sept. 21 at 5:45 a.m.:
Dear Walter,
Bridges, smidges. Don’t bother calling me. You’re unhappy? Wah! Wah! Wah!
Chill out and have a little Malbec. And, once again, quit wasting bridge.
Dougie
The next day, there is this exchange, which presumably refers to real Doug Gablinske’s penchant for handing out leaf-disposal bags around Bristol to promote his candidacy. (They said something like, “Gablinske: Cleaning up Rhode Island!” Get it?) Anyway, “Gablinski” sends this message to Flatus on Sept. 22 at 7:48 p.m.:
Walter,
Do you want to buy some trash bags? I’ve got $9,000 worth in my garage.
Dougie
And an hour later, “Gablinski” follows up with this:
You could use them to avoid wasting bridge!
Ha! Ha! Ha! How’s that vote against me feel now?
Dougie
Flatus replies: “Get yourself some help.” Something tells me these letters will not be collected John Adams-style in book form.
In other Gablinske developments, the Rhode Island Statewide Coalition has called on law enforcement to broaden its investigation to include threatening, profanity-laced letters that were allegedly sent to a Gablinske supporter during the primary campaign. I also e-mailed Leidecker a short time ago at his work address to see if he had any further comment on the charges, but haven’t heard anything back.

Death of our democracy and the rights we are given in the Constitution happens by a thousand pricks. Liedecker’s (a lawyer to boot) represents one of those thousand “pricks” that destroys our most fundamental freedoms, the right to a fair voting process.
This behavior, while not the first, must not be allowed to slip by as “normal”. IT exemplifies how far we have fallen from our basic rights. COndoning or enabling this act will erode the most basic freedoms our country is found on. Ask not for whom the bell tolls… without a strong response to this high up union hack we will all suffer the loss of freedom to a fair vote.
Doug Gablinske is not a “sour grapes” kind of guy. Any one who knows him knows that he is a man of strong principles. Any one who pays attention to politics knows that this is just par for the course type of activity from the unions. They can be brutle, just ask some of the candidates who ran for office this year.
