One Response to “Watch Gina Raimondo on MSNBC’s ‘Dylan Ratigan Show’”

  1. Truth says:

She has really distorted the truth from the perspective of the teachers and the union leadership. She stated in her group presentations that she would address the lower income pensioners along with the teachers who don’t receive social security and she did neither. She and the legislators callously dismissed this issue. With food and heating costs rising as they are, those receiving pensions under 20,000. will surely be impoverished. It is one thing if you have the opportunity to plan for this but to change the rules so drastically once people are retired is shameful. She could have opted for a COLA tied to the CPI that was based on a fixed amount so that there wouldn’t be compounding. This would allow people who planned on the COLA to at least keep up with inflation. Yes, there was a need for pension reform. Did she need to take the extreme measures – no she did not.
Also, she denies that there was money from the Koch brothers but how can anyone know this for sure if the donors to EngageRI are secretive? Is it just a coincidence that this legislation resembles one of ALEC’s model legislaton.
Was she sleeping when Projo and EngageRI vilified and demonized those “greedy and selfish” teachers and public workers who are pigs at the trough.
She also stated that the new plan would bring the the retirees to 80% of their salary. This may work for the young people but mid-career employees will never be able to make up for the loss of time. They will lose the most. Let’s not forget to mention that the managers of the new 403b plans will make enormous financial gain on the backs of the teachers and state employees. It is just another shift of wealth and another chapter in the great retirement heist.
What a shameful distortion of the truth.
