Senate Pres. Paiva Weed speaks out on Ruggerio, Ciccone
Here’s the entire new statement from Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, just sent by her office:
I would like to say that I am pleased to see that Senator Ruggerio has accepted responsibility for his actions. No one is above the law and everyone – including elected officials – should be respectful of individuals in the law enforcement community, particularly when they are doing their jobs. Although there seems to be a difference of opinion on the details of that night, Senator Ciccone has expressed regret for his actions that evening as well.
This woman will not say the truth because she is the leader of this pack. She and the rest know they are above the law! They just care about themselves and the only answer is to vote them out, or raise such a wave of out right vocal discussed that the news media cannot ignore the fact that this group are a pack of low lifes!!!!
Paiva Weed you are a total disgrace. The Republicans tell Watson to take a hike.Yet with Ruggiero the DUI is gone tomorrow.Give this drunk again a chance to kill somebody on the road. You should have sent him packing Gutless Weed. The Republicans are the only party with integrity in RI.
I was born and raised in Rhode Island. I love the beauty of the ocean. Every city and town has so much to offer. Although I would never leave our state, I am very concerned about our loss of population. I know our high unemployment numbers is an economic reason for people to leave but the lack of trust in our elected officials may also be a factor. Corporations in this state are concerned about the lack of a skilled work force to enable them to compete globally. I feel the same can be said for the lack of skills of our local politicians. We need political leaders who have the necessary talents that will lead our state to prosperity. Politics should not be a career but a duty. Is that asking too much?
I was born and raised in Rhode Island also, and yes that is asking too much in this sewer. If you’re older than 20 and don’t yet realize this state is a lost cause politically, you’re not paying attention. And I am counting the minutes until I’m out of this state, there are lots of wonderful beaches in a lot of other places.
You go Cosmo.
The President of the Senate’s remarks would fit right in to a Gilbert&Sullivan Operetta(Iolanthe?). What a farce!
Cosmo is right. Sad to say but if you are not a public union member than you are better off leaving this state. You can get a higher paying job in a state with a better business environment and the costs of services in other places are more reasonable. The costs here are driven up by the ridiculous compensation rates that the public unions have been able to “negotiate” with local and state pols. And the reason they are getting these ridiculous compensations packages is because they enjoy an insurmountable political advantage. Take Ciccone for example…he collects $120,000 from the Labors International Union, and $13,000 for being a State Senator. Who’s interest is he really there to vote for? Is it the people of Providence that elected him or the Union that is paying him? He’s not alone many of the GA members have very strong union ties and they vote that way they have for years. Same thing with states like California, unions dominate politically so they are taking so much that they have crippled their state.
