Jet Stream 101
Good Evening…
The jet stream (storm track) will re-adjust in a way that will favor dry and comfortable weather ahead including Father’s day weekend. The jet is a narrow river of air at high altitudes, that circles the globe and determines the kind of weather patterns for days and weeks at a time. The shape, location, and speed of the jet is important as far as the kind of weather we get. The map below shows how the “pattern” will be setting up this weekend. Notice how the jet has a “camel hump” shape to it over New England…we call that a ridge. Ridges usually keep things dry and storm free. The ridge in this location will keep temps mild, but not hot this weekend. Sometimes in the summer the ridge can build in from the Bahamas and Bermuda. That is usually a set up for hot and humid weather. Bottom line..a dry comfy weekend ahead……Tony Petrarca
