Near Record Heat on the Way

Its another very comfortable day in southern New England… Mostly cloudy skies for a time this morning will give way to brightening this afternoon.  Temperatures and humidity will both be a bit higher than yesterday… but nothing oppressive.

Oppressive is what we’re forecasting for Wednesday and Thursday.  Both heat and humidity will combine to give us some stifling days.  The dewpoint is one way we figure out how much moisture is in the air and how comfortable the air is… the higher the dewpoint the more moisture is in the air… anything above 65° is pretty uncomfortable.  Here’s how the dew points look in the coming days.

Dewpoint Scale

We’ll also be keeping an eye on the temperatures…. it looks like possibly the hottest days we’ve seen since July 22, 2011 when temperatures climbed to 101° at TF Green Airport.  Some far inland areas may come close to 100° tomorrow, but at TF Green where we keep the records I think we’ll be closer to the mid-90s.  Speaking of records–we could at least tie the records for both days from 1941, which are 95° and 96° respectively.
