Get ready for the air war.
The candidates running in the 1st Congressional District will be spending plenty of money on television advertising over the next few months as they seek to persuade swing voters.
Republican Brendan Doherty’s campaign has reserved $480,000 in TV time from Oct. 16 through the November election, campaign manager Ian Prior told WPRI.com. Doherty may air ads before that, he said.
Democratic Congressman David Cicilline has spent about $103,550 on three weeks of TV ads since his campaign went on the air during the Olympics, campaign manager Eric Hyers told WPRI.com.
The congressman, who faces a Democratic primary challenge from Anthony Gemma on Sept. 11, has not reserved time for the fall yet, a spokeswoman said. The Gemma campaign has not disclosed any advertising buys.
The 1st District candidates will be competing for commercial time in the Providence market against well-funded Massachusetts candidates including Scott Brown, Elizabeth Warren and Joe Kennedy III, as well as other politicians and ballot campaigns in Rhode Island.
