Twin River, Newport Grand spend nearly $800K on campaign
Twin River isn’t gambling on the outcome of November’s referendum.
The Lincoln slot parlor has spent $698,050 so far this year on its Jobs to RI campaign pushing voters to legalize casino gaming in Rhode Island, according to a disclosure filed Tuesday. Newport Grand said separately Tuesday it’s spent $101,338 on the campaign so far, with nearly three months to go before the election.
RIPR’s Ian Donnis reported last month on the referendum’s big stakes.

These ads are misrepresenting the issue. The real concern for these two venues is that there will be a casino in Tauton. Rhode Island’s culture does not allow for the private sector to run an ethical operation in this state. Too many people who reside in this state are socialists, they believe they need to taken care of from cradle to grave. For example state workers, public school teachers, cops who are the worst criminals in the state, firemen, and the local municipal workers. Workers in this usage is a very loose term. Too many people paid by government in Rhode Island think they work, they don’t know how to work effectively without having 40,000 rules how not to do something.
It will be a jobs program for politician’s families and friends as well as a rich source of bribes. Then as soon as a real casino is built in Mass, not even Rhode Islanders will want to go to a Twin River casino wannabe. And morons will still shake their heads and wonder why RI is circling the bowl if not totally down the pipes by then. This is just a way of putting off the hard decisions that need to be made to improve the economy in this sewer.
