Yes, that’s former Treasury Secretary and Washington elder-statesman Bob Rubin soaking wet after he fell into a pool, standing next to Treasurer Gina Raimondo at a Democratic National Convention party at the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte, N.C. This photo has spread fast overnight.

HuffPo’s Ryan Grim reports the two were attending “a happy hour party” that began around 6:30 p.m. “and was attended by top White House officials and Wall Street bigwigs.” The pool is on the 18th floor of the Ritz.

Rubin and Raimondo were scheduled to take part in the Peter G. Peterson Foundation’s “Fiscal Thursday” panel today. They’re both graduates of Yale Law School and members of the Council on Foreign Relations.

  1. Bob says:

That’s not Gina he’s talking to, that’s a little boy.

Is this the same Robert “Robber Baron” Rubin who pushed for repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, then made a gazillion dollars off that while at CitiCorp, then tried to explain how the banking collapse had nothing to do with him.

In my view, he should be doing a perp walk rather than glad handing his way around the country trying to reinvent himself.

Gina knows all of this, but she appears to be lowering her standards lately.

Thanks, Gary M for writing about the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act. Unfortunately, many people don’t know about this act put in place after the Great Depression and how detrimental the repeal was. Neither party is anxious to reinstate it or a similar type law. just as they are not enthusiastic about regulating the derivatives industry. It might cut in to their profits. Not surprisingly, I don’t hear political candidates (including incumbents) talking about these issues.
