Late Night Sandy Update
Good Morning..
12:30 am ….just saw some of the newer data that has come out….in a nut shell the general idea continues to be this…..the storm will have a hard time escaping to the right and out to sea. Infact, for a time Saturday into Sunday it will turn northeast and give the appearance that it is heading out to sea…but later in the period…Sunday Night into Monday and Tuesday, Sandy makes a rare left hand hook, back towards the coast. Now…the potential area of landfall seems to be as far south as the Chesapeake Bay….to as far north as Block Island. This is the reason why impacts, in one form or another are likely here, since the storm itself is so large in size. The width of the wind field covers alot of real estate. The magnitude of rain amounts, wind speeds, and coastal flood potential will be determine by exactly where the storm makes landfall. A land fall near the Chesapeake would be stormy for us but not severe….a track closer to Long Island New York would be severe. We have all of Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday where the weather is fine…during the next day or two, we should be able to get more specific on a landfall location. The window for stormy weather is early Monday thru Tuesday. If you live along the immediate south shore that is prone to flooding, you should have a plan of action just in case a mandatory evacuation is ordered….that’s only a “possibility” at this point, but better to be prepared just in case, rather than scrambling around last minute getting things in order. A track towards the Chesapeake would probably not require an evacuation, but a track near Long Island or Block Island might…stay tuned. Tony Petrarca

Storm Ready Tips (good for any season, even winter storms)
Thanks for keeping us updated Tony ! What do you think we’re looking at as far as rainfall. My house was flooded in the ‘great flood’ in 2010 and we got 9 inches from that. do you think it is possible to get that again or even more? i’m thinking its more than possible with this system…. Rest up – you’re gonna be busy!!
