Unsurprising news of the day: Chafee taps Caruolo for ed post

November 15th, 2012 at 4:08 pm by under Nesi's Notes, On the Main Site

Governor Chafee just announced he’s appointing former House Majority Leader George Caruolo as chairman of the new R.I. Board of Education, the new board created when the General Assembly decided out of nowhere to merge the old K-12 and higher-education boards. The appointment – which is subject to Senate confirmation – was widely expected to say the least.

The power of Caruolo is a much-discussed topic in Rhode Island’s corridors of power, particularly his influence on Chafee, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and House Speaker Gordon Fox. Read my August interview with Caruolo to hear his thoughts on the power he wields.
