Holiday Shopping- Spotlight on Small BusinessNovember 24th, 2012 at 6:29 pm by Cassandra Albergaria under The Rhode Show
The holidays are a time for giving to family, friends, and the community. By shopping for gifts locally we can help our community thrive. For Small Business Saturday I headed to Main Street in East Greenwich. Main Street is perfect for your holiday shopping because there is something for everyone- shops ranging from high-end boutiques, to consignment shops; book stores to home decor; there’s even a doggie bakery! And if you need a break for a pick-me-up there are plenty of coffee shops, fantastic restaurants and more!
I’ve mapped out the day of shopping I had to give you an idea of all EG has to offer.
Stop 1- Raise the Bar Nutrition
Raise the Bar is a meal-replacement shake bar that uses Herbalife products to make healthy – and TASTY- shakes. My favorite flavor is Birthday Cake, but today I tried Chunky Monkey. I knew this would provide the nutrients I would need to keep me shopping all day long!
Stop 2- Frills
Next door to Raise the Bar is Frill’s of East Greenwich, a trendy and affordable shop that’s one of my favorites. Owner Paige had a great promotion- you chose your discount from a fishbowl. It could range from 15% off to 35% off – I got 35% off my purchase! The shop was buzzing with customers looking for fashionable jewelry and accessories and unique, stylish clothes. Everyone loved the great selection of colorful pashminas. I shopped using stylist Jill Marinelli’s tips – I bought a thin belt to emphasize my waist creating an hourglass figure, and to help me look a little taller.
Stop 3- Chocolate Delicacy
I continued my walk down Main Street when I was greeted by the irresistable smell of Chocolate Delicacy, a family-owned chocolate store. Owner Marie greeted me with a warm-hearted smile. As a chocolate lover this store is a dream-come-true. There are plenty of gift items and an unbelievable assortment of chocolates. They even sell many sugar-free options. I indulged in a dark-chocolate covered oreo and it was AMAZING.
Stop 4- Luniac Glamour
Luniac Glamour doubles as both a full service salon and shop. All of the beautiful items Luniac Glamour offers are made by someone who lives or has lived in Rhode Island. The jewelry is unique and the store also sells fragrances, clothing and accessories. Co-owner Jaclyn will even make custom jewelry items!
Stop 5- Silver Spoon Bakery
When I walked into the new Silver Spoon Bakery I began to drool. The bakery is absolutely beautiful. There is a Parisian-style seating area where you can enjoy your cupcake, macaroon, coffee or tea in style. The shop is so elegant and the service is so exceptional that you can’t help but feel calm and relaxed- like royalty! Despite my indulgent day I had to try one of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Cupcakes that baker Becky had made. The cookie-dough filled vanilla cupcake with brown sugar frosting and a cookie to top it off was, by far, the best cupcake I have EVER had.
Stop 6- Bone Appetit
I have a small 5 lb. Yorkie named Peanut, and after a day of treating myself I decided I had better bring something home for him. Bone Appetit is an eco-friendly dog store where you can shop and your pup is welcome to shop with you! Owner Cara welcomed us and showed us some of the wonderful gift items for your dog to enjoy. The treats even looked appetizing to me… looks like I’ll be getting a lot of my holiday shopping done here!
If you missed out on Small Business Saturday it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get your holiday shopping done locally!
Every Thursday, starting this week and through December, the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Merchants Association will be sponsoring a Holiday Stoll from 5-8 PM on Main Street.
