So let me get this straight, despite the histrionics, state employees are actually UNDERPAID in Rhode Island? And to make matter worse, we keep taking benefits away from them?

    1. Cosmo says:

Read it a little more closely, especially the part about PERFORMANCE-BASED PAY. Think real world, if you don’t perform, you’re out of a job. No more hanging around and getting more money every year as long as you keep breathing regardless of how well or badly you do the job. If you can’t or won’t do the job you should not be underpaid, you should not be paid at all. But the people who excel, and I’m sure there are many state employees who do excel at their jobs, will be paid better for their hard work, effort and talent. Everybody, paticularly hard working state employees, will be better off.

The state does not recruit anyone this is a connected state. If you get a state job the only reason was you knew someone. One Judge has his entire family on the payroll. The state DLT job postings is a joke. Those jobs are decided before they are posted.

    1. Joseph Shultz says:

Downsized54 is speaking ‘old school’ political recruitment. That is not true today. What the state is doing NOW is hiring Non-American, unexperienced, citizens in place of qualified and experienced American citizens who are qualified for a job with the state. There are more non-official, not illegal, citizens working for the state. Jobs that could be given to legal American citizens who have prior work experience. Jobs for Americans first, no exceptions!

  3. downsized54 says:

I agree Jobs for Americans should come first. But the opposite holds true in RI.If my name was Gonzales and I was illegal the state would hire me.
