Providence will seek up to $5M from General Assembly

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – City officials have asked the General Assembly to increase municipal aid to Providence by between $4 and $5 million to help cover the city’s remaining structural deficit, Director of Administration Michael D’Amico said Monday.

If the GA increases aid to Providence, it should also increase aid to other cities and towns proportionately. Providence needs to financially position itself to pull its own weight by resolving its budget problems internally. I’m sure the remaining cities and towns would like to receive a shot in the arm, in the form of additional state aid.
The days of special treatment should be a thing of the past.
Run a deficit ask for a handout. Welcome to Rhode Island.
