This would mean Providence gets Federal and State aid for a network built only for Providence. If the push was for a State wide fiber to the home network hey I’m all for it. BUT just Providence? No because at some point they will have to pay out on this and then they will want more State school aid – hey they already want more State school aid.

    More! More! More!

Spend some small amount of money getting Google to come to the Northeast and build their first State wide network. Even if they sell it off after say 7 years the infrastructure is there and the State can take it over or sell it to some real competitive broadband provider – ie NOT Cox or Verizon. Actually Verizon with there 11 terabyte softcap is pretty competitive BUT the State in granting them a video license did not mandate a State wide roll out so many areas do not have Fios.
